KEY ROLE: Support the engagement and development of a broad range of
stakeholders in Age Actions programmes and activities as listed below
and to include Age Actions wider policy work, volunteer engagement
opportunities and income generation activities.

REPORTS TO: NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT MANAGER

THE ROLE

* Deliver Age Action programmes with a view to linking new
participants to established activities and developing new groups where
the need arises
* Build capacity and capability to enable an increased level of
services and effectively engage with the local community
* Recruit and train, and support volunteers in conjunction with the
Age Action Volunteer Manager
* To plan and manage all aspects of the programme to which you are
assigned which may include day-to-day operations, supervision and
support of volunteers and participants on employment schemes, and
handling client requests
* Support Administration team to handle client calls, schedule and
record activities
* Recruit, train and support community partner organisations to run
services in partnership with Age Action
* Raise awareness of services among older people, community groups,
health professionals and the public.
* Develop partnerships between local statutory and voluntary bodies
with a specific focus on the HSE/CHO
* To assist with implementation of income generation strategy and
identify corporate opportunities
* Manage the administrative and financial aspects of the programmes
including the provision of required progress reports and accounts
* Support the work of Age Action?s Advocacy and Communications
team where required
* The Development Officer will cover a region as specified by their
line manager which is achievable from the location at which they are
based
* The Development Officer may be assigned to a specific service or
may work across services depending on organisational requirements
* To maintain a flexible approach to all aspects of the job
* To attend meetings and training courses when necessary
* Carry out all reasonable requests of the National Development
Manager

AGE ACTION RUNS THE FOLLOWING PROGRAMMES IN THE REGION:

_1. CARE & REPAIR_
The Care & Repair Programme is a major part of providing key services
for older people, especially those who are most disadvantaged. The aim
of the programme is to enable older people to remain living in their
own homes for as long as they wish in increased safety and comfort.
Small repairs are provided by a team of trained volunteers and a
register of local tradespersons is in place who can provide quotations
on larger jobs

_2. GETTING STARTED_
As part of the fight against digital exclusion and to combat digital
literacy among older people, Age Action's Getting Started programme
delivers training on computers, the internet and mobile phones to
people over the age of **Apply on the website**. The programme
addresses the challenges and barriers experienced by older learners.
Volunteers are trained and supported to provide one-to-one tuition in
a relaxed and non-formal learning environment. To date, the programme

nationwide in hundreds of venues.

_3. LIFELONG LEARNING_
Lifelong learning is about motivating people to continue learning
throughout their lives- both formally and informally. We can learn on
our own, but for most of us learning happens when we interact and
learn from each other. The

University of the Third Age is an international movement of older
people commonly referred to as U3A. In Ireland, Age Action founded the
first U3A in **Apply on the website** and continues to build the
network of groups throughout the country along with providing
administrative and other supports to existing groups. Age Action
facilitates and supports U3A governance, management and learning. It
works to raise the profile of the U3A movement and promotes the
benefits of learning in later life.

Age Action is engaged in an international programme which aims to
increase public understanding of global ageing issues and raise
awareness of the role of Ireland?s overseas development. Age Action
raises awareness of issues facing older people in developing
countries, such as income insecurity, access to pensions and social
protection, access to health care, age discrimination, etc. This is
achieved by public engagement actions which target the general public
and specifically older men and women in Ireland

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

* A commitment to human rights and equality
* Experience of working on community development projects
* Experience of working with volunteers and in the voluntary sector
* Excellent people skills and the ability to communicate with a wide
range of key stakeholders
* Excellent organisational skills and an ability to work on his/her
own initiative, in an independent environment and without constant
supervision
* Excellent IT skills including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word,
Excel & PowerPoint), and experience of CRM database management
* A current full clean driving licence and own car, or access to a
car. The role will involve evening and weekend work from time to time
